Michael Sragow is a contributing editor and an online critic for Film Comment. His biography, Victor Fleming: An American Movie Master, won the 2009 Marfield Prize (also known as the National Award for Arts Writing). He edited Produce and Abandoned: The National Society of Film Critics Write on the Best Films You’ve Never Seen (1990), and the Library of America’s two volumes of James Agee’s prose (2005). He also curated “The Moviegoer,” a biweekly feature for the LOA website. He was the first regular movie critic for Rolling Stone. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Criterion Collection and The New York Times. He was one of the first programmers for the Criterion Channel and has been a member of the National Society of Film Critics since 1979.
