Peter Rainer is the film critic for the Christian Science Monitor. He was a finalist in 1998 for the Pulitzer Prize in criticism while writing for New Times Los Angeles. Previously he has also served as film critic for New York magazine, the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner. From 1989-2004 he was chairman of the National Society of Film Critics. He edited the film criticism anthology "Love and Hisses" and wrote and co-produced the A&E Biographies on The Hustons and Sidney Poitier. He has served on the main juries for the Venice and Montreal film festivals. He also reviews DVDs for Bloomberg News and is a critic for the NPR-affiliate kpcc-fm's "Film Week," also heard on XM satellite radio. In addition to the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, he is also a member of the National Society of Film Critics and the New York Film Critics Circle. Most recently, Peter is author of the new book: "Rainer on Film: Thirty Years of Film Writing in a Turbulent and Transformative Era.
