The Los Angeles Film Critics Association is happy to offer scholarships for aspiring film critics with the generous support of Rotten Tomatoes.

This year we will award two $3,000 scholarships to students enrolled at Los Angeles-area community colleges: one to a woman and another to a person from an underrepresented group or groups.

Applicants should email the following materials to LAFCAscholarship@gmail.com by Dec. 31, 2021

• a cover letter including:
  • a description of their experience and/or aspirations in film criticism as a woman or person from an underrepresented group
  • their school, year, and area of study
• three writing samples such as a movie review written for the school paper, a paper for a film studies class, a personal blog post, etc.

Each recipient will receive a $3,000 award, as well as Fandango and FandangoNOW gift cards. LAFCA is still considering its plans for an awards event this season; this year’s Scholarship winners will be invited to attend an in-person celebration in the future.
